Coastal Cottage furniture has long been one of the most classic and beloved furniture styles.
With typically light finishes, charming designs, and an association with resort locales, what’s not to like?
When American Woodcrafters introduced the Dunescape coastal retreat bedroom collection recently, a good thing got a whole lot better.
The bedroom collection caught the attention of every major home furnishings publication and was a hit with furniture designers and retailers for a fresh approach to coastal cottage style that is sleeker and younger.
Crafted of Mahogany Solids and Veneers, Dunescape features a cleaner, more straight-lined design with a younger cottage vibe. The Mahogany Veneers “create a straight grain in the wood that you can feel and see, even through the white-white finish,” says Rusty Morris, vice president of sales and marketing. “While the finish is a brilliant white, you can see the wood texture revealed, and there is a depth to the finish,” he says.
While the Dunescape panel bed with a louver motif on the headboard is a more classic take on coastal cottage style, the collection offers a second upholstered bed option featuring gray performance fabric. The two bed options make the collection more versatile. The upholstered bed option enables the collection to fit into a range of interiors from urban loft to hipster farmhouse to casual transitional.
Adding to the intrigue of the upholstered bed is the small tack nailhead trim. “The small nailhead accent gives the bed an upscale designer appeal,” Morris said, adding that the performance fabric is also a plus, creating easier cleanability and durability for settings such as rental home properties and second homes.
Dunescape also stands out for its youthful vibe. “The cleaner lines of the collection appeal to a younger audience,” said Phil Rassi, the collection’s designer. He added that, while it includes traditional elements of coastal cottage, it also has a modern flair.
According to Morris, the Dunescape Collection is expected to be shipping to retail stores and designers by September. In September, the collection will be in stock in the company’s North Carolina warehouse and ready to ship approximately 48 hours after ordering.
